O tej książce

Bayeux Behind the Scenes is a colouring book for children and adults alike with hand drawn images from and inspired by The Bayeux Tapestry. The drawings are a mixture of those depicted on the famous embroidery and those designed by Mia Hansson. She has imagined what could have happened behind the scenes around the time when The Bayeux Tapestry was made. Who looked after the horses? Who made the weapons? What was it like to be at sea on a Norman ship? There aren't many women on The Bayeux Tapestry, but there are a few in this book. They are sewing, doing laundry, cooking and ironing. Some images may be fairly true to historical life, while others have been created with plenty of humour and imagination by someone who definitely isn't a historian. Mia has even added herself to this book, working on the drawings while the dogs are snoozing on the floor. Each image is accompanied by a comment or a short musing, explaining Mia's thought behind it. Her sense of humour is clearly showing here and even more so in the five drawings in chapter 2, depicting well-known fairy tales. In total, there are 41 images and the majority of those are connected to The Bayeux Tapestry in one way or another. Every drawing has a blank back side, making it suitable for tracing, if used as a craft or embroidery pattern.
