To Mexico With Taylor and Scott, 1845-1847

Historians have ably analyzed the Mexican war i numerous texts, from its earliest causes to its most far-reaching effects on American policy. What has not been easily available to the student of American history is the wealth of eyewitness accounts of the conflict kept by American soldiers. Several of these primary sources in the form of letters, diaries, reports, and memoirs are presented in this book. Selection has been limited to those writings that describe and analyze the major campaigns and reveal the reactions of the participants to the war, to their allies and opponents, and to the scenes of battle.
