The Measure And Mismeasure Of Populations: The Statistical Use Of Ethnic And Racial Categories In Multicultural Societies

Based on a conference co-hosted by CERI, the French National Institute of Demographic Studies (INED), and the Group for the Study and Fight Against Discrimination at the end of 2001, these essays explore the questions of whether race and ethnicity are scientific categories or purely political ones and whether precise definitions of group boundaries based on ethnic and racial categories are needed in the nations of Western Europe and the Americas.
