This collection of essays and reviews by John Dos Passos covers a variety of subjects, beginning with student contributions to the Harvard Monthly and ending with an essay from 1970. Editor Donald Pizer has gathered these selections, virtually unattainable in a library collection, and retrieves a body of writing that exhibits Dos Passos' activities and ideas at specific phases of his career. Pizer's choices help constitute a spiritual autobiography of a figure who was otherwise normally reticent about his deepest convictions.
