O tej książce
The Lowcountry Rice Culture Project Vintage African American Book Collection illustrated by the Art of Jonathan GreenJonathan Green founded the Lowcountry Rice Culture Project in 2011 as an organization that could identify, research, examine and discuss the art, history and culture that emanated from the rice plantations throughout the Southern Coastal Lowcountry. The culture of the rice plantations was influenced in myriad ways by the life and labor of West Africans who were chosen for their high level intellectual and physical knowledge about the growing and cultivation of rice. The nature of the watery environment of the Lowcountry also necessitated an expertise in maritime culture which is another thrust of the Lowcountry Rice Culture Project. Understanding African American Maritime history and culture is essential to understand the history of African Americans in America. For this legacy and history built the first global economy. There are many early books written by African Americans that speak to the various elements that emanated from rice and maritime culture. The editing and updating of these precious volumes with the magnificent art of Jonathan Green renews great literature for contemporary readers. The primary intent of the Lowcountry Rice Culture Project is to enhance and extend classic African American literature to broader audiences.
