Text and Student Study Guide for A Basic Course in American Sign Language [2 Book Set]

Textbook and Student Study Guide 2 book set. There are obvious problems with writing a text for avisual gestural language. This text attempts to alleviate some of these problems by using illustrations and scripts for signed sequences. The text is composed of 22 lessons each of which contains two to four basic explanations of the language structures to be learned. As a resource for the student, a drill or exercises follows. Spaced at intervals throughout the text are several short dialogues which review the language structures discussed in the preceding lessons. STUDENT STUDY The study guide is designed to be used in conjunction with the text. The guide provides a wide array of supplemental practice materials for the student and teacher alike. Special features of the Study Guide include practice sentences and interesting and innovative exercises for each of the 22 lessons; material is presented in American Sign Language word order with an English translation in the back of each lesson; activities such as mime, role playing and number exercises are found in the Appendix.
