Sun Pictures. Catalogue Twelve: Talbot and Photogravure

Having grown up in a household of antiquarian books and reference works customarily illustrated with pho- tomechanical reproductions, I have to admit that I had taken photogravures for granted. Now, after nearly two decades of dealing primarily in paper negatives and salt prints, I find myself captivated by William Henry Fox Talbot's photographic and photoglyphic engravings, the world's earliest photogravures. Studied with the naked eye, they are surprisingly beautiful little prints. Under magnification, their lines and dots map out the fascinating story this catalogue begins to tell.
