Southern Cultures, Vol. 6, No. 1

The Spring 2000 issue, Volume 6, Number 1, of Southern Cultures was published by The University of North Carolina Press for the Center for the Study of the American South at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was edited by John Shelton Reed and Harry L. Watson. This issue is the Five-year Anniversary Issue and contains the essays "The Southern Autobiographical Impulse" by J. Bill Berry; "Equine Relics of the Civil War" by Drew Gilpin Faust; and "Images of Scottsboro" by Lynn Barstis Williams, as well as the review essay "The Rise of Southern Redneck and White Trash Writers" by Erik Bledsoe. The issue also contains shorter articles by Gavin James Campbell, John Shelton Reed, Brian Carpenter, and Fred Hobson.
