The 11th and final issue of RANK! is the quintessential installment of this tri-yearly literary/art magazine, doing what RANK! has always done best. It invites readers to explore the concepts of identity and reality, and entices you to ask that all-important Who is RANK!? Who’s been putting this magazine out all these years? Who wrote these stories and made this art? Which of the contributors are actually real? And what does that even mean? This issue features new artwork from long-time RANK! associate Andrew Harper, as well as the photography of frequent contributor Brin Morris. It includes new fiction from Anais Yossarian and new flash fiction from Carlos Typhoon. It contains all 3 installments of Timothy Synclair’s The Synesthete vs. the Asymoblic novella series, as well as each of the 4 letters from Solomon West’s political essay series Letters to an American Friend. It reprints all 5 parts of The Touch Stone by iconoclast poet Alec V. Baymos (1931–1979), complete with annotations by Terrence Winthrop from The Yankee Review’s 1981 20th anniversary serialization of the poem. It has interviews of RANK! editor, Caleb Asymov, and publisher, Alyssa Laurent. On Sabrina Lopez’s Science Page, the physics professor offers a lesson on refraction, chromatic dispersion, and the physics of prisms. It also includes pieces from a handful of new the collages of Anders H. R. Drooper, brain games by Dr. Bonga, and fiction by David Jensen, Jayde Coleridge, and Tanner Buckley. All told, RANK! #11 features 50 pieces by 16 different contributors. …or does it?
