Radius of Doubt: Patterns of Chaos

When starships bend space in FTL drives, races can travel to destinations among the galaxies...but only if the pilot can part the Chaos created when they do so. It takes a Choyan tezar to navigate that chaos reliably, and that gives the race great power in a Compact of civilizations. Peace and war rise and fall as Palaton, one of the elite of the Choyan, fights to keep his abilities against the inevitable burnout that awaits all tezars. His world of Cho struggles to maintain its supremacy, risking civil as well as galactic war...and Palaton turns to a secretive experiment to keep and cleanse his ability...with the aid of a struggling new race that calls itself "human".
