Genesis Unbound: The Annotated Version

Can anything new be ferreted out of the Genesis text after thousands of years? Indeed so. Unbound from orthodox traditions, it offers up many surprises. Its Eden gives humans an alluring mission in place of a fateful outcome. Its stories reveal divine trickery, mixed characterisations, and priestly rivalries whose posturing needs to be seasoned with salt. Its sweep of time stretches from a mystical “beginning” through Jacob’s “last days” to Joseph’s adventures in what appears to be the Age of Aquarius! Along the way, there will be giants where least expected, peculiar substitutions and reversals, hidden numerological codes, heroes that shake out as villains, and villains as heroes. By going back to the original Hebrew text with mental blinders removed, translators can make these and other discoveries. As for readers, abandon all preconceptions but not hope: for there is much to enjoy beneath the ‘skin’ of this pudding.
