O tej książce
Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog) , The Devil's Dictionary , My Man Jeeves , The Diary of a Nobody , and Right Ho, Jeeves are the Epic Humor Books included in this compilation. The 1889 publication Three Guys in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog) by English author Jerome K. Jerome is a comical story of a boating vacation on the Thames between Kingston and Oxford. The book's original intent was for it to be a sombre trip guide with stories of local history along the way, but the hilarious parts eventually overpowered them to the point where the sombre and occasionally sad passages seemed to detract from the comedic narrative. One of the things most admired about Three Guys in a Boat is how timeless it seems to readers today; the jokes still feel sharp and funny. Ambrose Bierce's most well-known book is frequently regarded as The Devil's Dictionary. It was published in parts in the San Francisco Wasp. It includes Bierce's clever and frequently sardonic take on numerous typical English terms, and it was first published in 1906 as The Cynic's Word Book. The definitions included therein were finally published in its entirety in 1911, and they are still relevant today. a case in point "The killing of one person by another is referred to as homicide. The classification of homicide into four categories—felonious, excusable, justifiable, and praiseworthy—is done for the benefit of the attorneys and has little bearing on the individual who was killed." P. G. Wodehouse's collection of short stories, My Man Jeeves, was first released in the UK in May 1919. Among the eight stories in the collection, Jeeves and Bertie Wooster appear in half of them, while Reggie Pepper, an early prototype for Wooster, is the subject of the other three. The Diary of a Nobody - Charles Pooter, a Clerk in the city of London, recalls in his diary in often-hilarious detail the daily lives of the lower middle classes during the great Victorian era. The diary is written by someone who freely admits that he is not "someone." Right Ho, Jeeves - In this magnificent new edition of one of the best comic books ever written in the English language, follow the exploits of Bertie Wooster and his gentleman's gentleman, Jeeves. Bertie has to deal with the Market Snodsbury Grammar School awards ceremony, his cousin Angela's broken engagement, Gussie Fink-pursuit Nottle's of Madeline Bassett, and the genius chef Anatole's resignation. Will he succeed? Only with Jeeves' assistance!
