Emperor Meiji ⟪Vol. 3⟫The Constitution of the Empire of Japan was promulgated in 1889 (Meiji 22), and the first Imperial Diet was held the following year. Meanwhile, conflict with China over Korea intensified with the Donghak Rebellion. When the First Sino-Japanese War broke out, the Emperor moved to Hiroshima, where the Imperial Headquarters were located, and donned a patched military uniform to share the hardships of the soldiers.
