Dave's Trans-Africa Bike Trip 1988/89

It's now 25 years since my first major bike trip. It was an amazing journey during which I had numerous adventures. I got trapped under my bike on a log bridge in the jungle and almost burnt my leg off (but was rescued by schoolgirls). I got typhoid. I rode the 'gun run' across Malawi. I got malaria. The bike (and me) suffered serious damage in an accident in South Africa. I met amazing people, experienced wonderful countries, and I drank lots of beer.These are the letters I sent home as a record of that trip for anyone that was there, or anyone interested in what adventure travel was like in the eighties.
