Creative Writing

Students create their own poems and prose as they gain an understanding of different genres and become aware of how they can turn their own experiences into creative writing. The collection of 40 lessons (including 86 reproducible handouts) demonstrates ways of expressing creativity within a structure needed to communicate with an audience. In addition to introducing students to various forms of poetic and prose writings, the lessons center on setting a tone in writing, creating dialogue, and revising, editing, and publishing one's work. Lessons include exploring ballads and sonnets; modeling well-known poems; creativity from personal experience; radio plays; fantasy, philosophy, and politics in comics; and parables-yesterday and today.
