O tej książce

In one volume, a collection of Ulysses S. Grant's eight state of the union addresses, dating from 1869 to 1876.Ulysses S. Grant was a prominent American leader who served as the 18th President of the United States from 1869 to 1877. He achieved fame as the commanding general of the victorious Union forces during the Civil War and is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in American history. Born in Ohio in 1822, Grant was the son of an American tanner and farmer. He attended West Point and served with distinction in the Mexican-American War before returning to civilian life in 1854. When the Civil War broke out in 1861, Grant was appointed Colonel of the 21st Illinois Volunteers. His success in the battles of Fort Donelson and Shiloh earned him promotion to commanding General of the Union Army. Grant went on to lead the Union forces to victory in the Civil War and was promoted to the rank of General of the Army in 1866. After the war, he served briefly as the 18th president of the United States, implementing civil rights reforms, reducing the national debt, and attempting to reconcile the divided nation. After leaving office, Grant wrote his bestselling memoirs, which earned him a substantial sum of money, and went on a two-year world tour. Grant died in 1885 and is remembered as one of the greatest American military leaders of all time. He is honored in many ways in the United States, including having his face featured on the $50 bill.
