California Historical Radio Society Journal - Special Edition: Television

The evolution of television has many facets beginning with the interesting and creative mechanical approaches of the 1920s, the invention of all-electronic television in the 1930's, and its and its subsequent wide-spread cultural adoption. Television expanded the cultural impact of radio by adding the visual dimension to the familiar auditory medium and brought a magical and engaging experience into the home. This special edition of the California Historical Radio Society (CHRS) Journal, highlights the diverse interests of CHRS members in early Television research, preservation, education, and experimentation. This is a compilation of past television related articles that have appeared in CHRS Journals and related publications plus articles from invited authors. Articles include restoration and experimental construction of mechanical television devices, as well as restoration of iconoscope cameras and vintage television sets; biographies of several noted early contributors to evolution and invention of television; and overviews of related technologies and standards.
