Brothers and Sisters: Modern Stories by Black Americans

This collection of twenty short stories by black American writers spans a period of over forty years. It begins with the writing of Langston Hughes and Richard Wright and includes today's young Nikki Giovanni and John A. Williams.Whether they are the works of such established writers as James Baldwin, Ralph Ellison, and Gwendolyn Brooks or of their younger colleagues, all of the stories are concerned with the portrayal of black youth. it is through these children, teen-agers, and young adults that the authors have chosen to reveal the many aspects of black experience.
