Art and Society in Roman Britain

This is a readable outline of Romano-British art - its origins, influences and developments - which can also be used as an introduction to the subject of Roman Britain. The close relationship between the political and economic history of the province and its art is made clear and, in contrast to the traditional view that Roman art existed only as copies of Greek art and lacked any fundamental dynamism of its own, the authors argue that Roman art responded rapidly to diverse influences.
