Webb traveled from coast to coast, talking with 150 architects, to look for dwellings which respond creatively to the challenges of site, context and budget. He selected 41 recent examples and six modern classics ranging from a tree house in Berkeley to a cluster of wooden towers in Florida to sophisticated New York apartments. Color and vintage black-and-white photographs, plans and sections are combined with what each architect built--and why.
