It has been suggested to me by a friend that, inasmuch as numbers of the medical profession still believe in the doctrine of a vital prin ciple, and also in the identity of nervous influence and the galvanic fluid, 1 should give these questions a thorough examination. I have done so, as far as my abilities were competent to the task. The re sult will be found in the Appendix. I have also added a paper upon Absorption.
