O tej książce

This new publication, produced on the occasion of the recent exhibition in Rome, features large-scale sculptures by Alexander Calder made between 1948 and 1964. Resonating with early Conceptual and Constructivist art as well as with the language of early abstract painting, Calder gained renown for his invention of the mobile in which boldly colored abstract shapes made of industrial materials hung in perfect balance from delicate wires. Calder also created a number of important static sculptures, known as "stabiles," whose constructions utilized various techniques of welding and bolting to create a type of metalwork that rejected the weight and solidity of a bronze mass. In this exhibition, two of Calder's most important works, Spunk of the Monk (1964) and Five Points/Triangles (1957), are featured together to accentuate their monumentality and relation.
