The aim of the project is to stimulate and encourage new writing from the Southern African development corporation (SADC) region and showcase the region's new and young creative writing talent as well as to develop local and regional reading. The award is targeted at young writers who are citizens of any country in the SADC (Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe).
