I learned, as a young high school teacher, that to help students want to retain what they were learning, I needed to make the complex simple, not the simple complexed. I began the practice of minimizing the number of words and maximizing the content of each sentence. As I moved on to teaching college it became even more important to have “pregnant” sentences that would give birth to new ideas in fresh young minds.
