A Simpler Time: Transcontinental Bicycle Tour 1991

During the summer of 1991, just after graduating from the University of Northern Iowa, Jim Cochran and his best friend, Pat McKay, set out on a transcontinental bicycle journey that took them from Seattle, Washington, to Washington, D.C., over the course of 48 days. A Simpler Time is the story of their travels, a compilation of detailed journal entries Cochran made during the trip. It’s the story of the people they met and the friends they made; reflections about the beauty of our country; and a documentation of personal triumph in the face of a great physical trial and perseverance. Throughout the book, Cochran also explains the fundamentals of bicycle riding and touring. This work is proof that every time he gets on a bike, Cochran is transported to somewhere or nowhere on a ride that sets in motion the creation of another fond memory.
