O tej książce
Joyce Kilmer's poem "Trees" made his reputation and has remained, since its publication, one of the best known poems in the English language. Although a New Yorker by residence, Joyce considered himself Irish: he certainly had a Celtic exuberance and made his very existence a celebration of life. This little book is a selection of his poems and his last essay - the only one he wrote about his war experiences - "Holy Ireland." This essay is not about the carnage of the First World War, in which he died on 28 July 1918, but rather of being billeted with 11 other members of his regiment (the 165th Infantry, otherwise known as "the Fighting Irish") in the home of a French war widow and her three children.
