The book is a history of Harborne Fire Station from its inception to decommissioning. It starts by showing how a fire in Digbeth Birmingham in 1878, prompted the people of Harborne to form a pressure group to have a fire brigade to protect their village; and as a result of the pressure group, a volunteer brigade was formed which was eventually taken under the control of Birmingham council who built a brand new station at Harborne in1907.
