Resistance

How do you rebuild a broken nation? Iskandir doesn’t know, but as resistance leader turned peacetime governor, he’s trying his best, even though he believes his best will never be good enough. But things are about to get a lot worse in Tiallat. First, the rats begin to die. Next, humans begin to sicken too. As the plague spreads across an already devastated country, the people turn their prayers to Tiallat’s Dual God, who has been missing for years. What they don’t know is that a thousand years ago, Iskandir of Rulat was a wild steppes spirit who fought in the Dragon Wars or that after that war, he became Tiallat’s god.Now the dragon who once loved that laughing spirit is flying south to seek him out and Dual God’s people are dying as their prayers go unanswered. Iskandir must wrestle with his guilt and secrets to decide who he is and what power he wields, in a time when it feels like no miracle is great enough to save the people he promised to protect.CONTENT WARNING: This book, first published in 2015, contains a detailed and historically accurate depiction of an outbreak of bubonic plague and the emotional toll of the quarantine and epidemic.
